Bookworm Phase

Short Comic Books

First were the Classic Indian Comics - Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle. These were the classic Indian Fables & Folktales like Panchatantra, mythology (Avatars, Ramayana, Mahabharata), Humour & wit, Biographies, Monkey Stories From The Hitopadesha, Tales of Birbal. The detailed research of architecture, costumes, regional flavours and facts were very captivating and they forced me to enroll into a library to read more.

There was also a costumed hero, Phantom who was based in Africa and lived in a skill cave and tree house. He was married to Diana Palmer, and the couple have two children together, Kit and Heloise. He had two pets - trained wolf, Devil, and the horse Hero.

Some of the famous tinkle characters that had a description in Wikipedia

Suppandi - Suppandi, the village simpleton, is by far the most popular Tinkle character. He is a well meaning servant who always misunderstands the commands of his masters, which leads to many humorous accidents.
Kapish - A clever, helpful monkey who lives in the jungle of Kadu along with his friends, Baboocha the bear, Bundila the elephant and many others. His arch enemies are Sigal the jackal and Peelu the tiger.
Kalia the Crow - Kalia is an intelligent crow, who saves his friends from Doob-doob the crocodile, and Chamataka the fox.
Tantri the Mantri - Tantri is the scheming Minister (Mantri) of the well meaning Raja Hooja.
Shikari Shambu - Shambu is a Shikari, a hunter, whom the world perceives as courageous and powerful, whereas in reality he is meek, easygoing and lazy.
Ramu and Shamu - Ramu and Shamu are two innocent identical twins having their ups and their downs as they experiment and play.
Nasruddin Hodja - A man who has a large witty brain which he uses to outsmart people.

Bigger comic book phases

During School days, I grew into reading longer adventure comics like Asterix and Tintin. Most impressive was the magic portion, captain haddock and Tintin's haircut. I think I have read the full series as of now.

Teenage Comics classics

The best teenage comics is of course Archies !! Archies even made it to the top of news stories when they decided to run a edition of Archie marrying Veronica. My favorite role model in the book was of course the charming talented Betty Cooper.

Charming Comics for all ages

In College one of my friends bought a gift for his dad - a big comic book of Calvin and Hobbes. I started arguing with him on how could a comic book be a gift for his dad and he convinced me to read it to make me understand that it was indeed a great gift. I got hooked onto all these classic comics that are fun for all ages - Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes and Dilbert. Dilbert is something that you can only start to understand once you start working. :D
